FIT THOUGHTS: HOW YOUR FEET BEHAVE IN YOUR BOOTS

The right fit is essential for good foot health and your comfort.

Your feet are like highly developed flexible platforms.

They have a three-dimensional shape that constantly changes with movement, allowing you to stay upright, maintain your balance, and stay in control. If you stand on one foot in socks, you will feel (and see) how your foot constantly adapts to the positioning of your body weight and the ground.

When under pressure, your foot becomes longer, flatter, and wider.

The ideal fit provides enough room in the toe area for the foot to expand, while the heel fits snugly at the same time to prevent slipping.

The boots are too big:

Slipping out - the foot simply slips out of the boot, e.g. in mud.

Friction - If the foot changes shape and moves in a shoe that is too big, it can rub, which can create hot spots as well as blisters, chafing, and damage to the shoe lining (especially at the heel).

Hammer toes - when you constantly tense your toes to avoid slipping out of the shoe.

The boots are too short:

There is no room for your toes, which leads to pressure points and possibly even the loss of toenails.

The boots are too small:

Restricts the natural movement of the foot, causes discomfort, creates friction, hot spots, blisters, and impairs the natural movement mechanism.

Properly fitting shoes feel like a natural extension of your feet. This way, your foot moves naturally with you and not against you. The footbed and outsole under your foot thus provide comfort and traction.

Important points:

Leave enough room in the toe area so that your toes can move even under pressure.

Make sure the heel fits snugly (but not too tightly) to prevent the heel from slipping out.

Sometimes heel grips can also improve the fit and prevent slipping. Heel grips are usually self-adhesive suede pads that are glued into the boots behind your heels - an invisible fit aid for even more comfort. They are inexpensive and available in shoe stores, supermarkets, or on Amazon.

Buy shoes and boots that fit. Every size indication is a guideline. If they fit, then they fit - so try (if possible) to always try on shoes before buying them.

As da Vinci so beautifully said: "The human

foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art." So take care

of your feet, so that your feet can take care of you.
