What exactly are NEOS?
They are not galoshes, and they are certainly not rubber boots.
Strictly speaking, they are unlike anything you have ever seen before.
NEOS Overshoes® are designed to be worn directly over your everyday shoes. They are versatile, reliable, easy to store, and easy to put on and take off. Keep a pair handy in your trunk, and you'll always have a loyal companion for unpredictable weather.

Where do they come from?
As the saying goes - necessity is the mother of invention. The "necessity" behind NEOS was a chaotic winter storm in New York City in 1993.
Woody Nash, a usually well-dressed bond trader, arrived at his office with shoes, socks, and pant legs completely soaked from the gray Manhattan slush. He somehow managed through the day with the dirty clothes and, against his better judgment, bought a pair of unsightly galoshes for the way home. No sooner had he approached the subway station than he slipped down the stairs on the slick rubber soles. When he arrived home, the flimsy material was torn and flapping around his foot. Annoyed, Woody thought, "There has to be a better way."
That evening, he spoke with a friend, Scott Hardy, and told him about his frustrating experience. Scott, an entrepreneur and outdoor enthusiast, lived in snowy Vermont. If there was a better version of the overshoe, he would know about it. If not, he could make one.
Like many great inventions, the first NEOS was sketched on a napkin and assembled in a garage. Scott sewed a cleated sole to a mountaineering gaiter and sent it to Woody in NYC for testing.
After receiving the new overshoes, Woody bravely made his way to work. Coincidentally, a "storm of the century" was raging in the streets of New York, providing a merciless testing ground. As one person after another stopped and expressed interest in the self-made overshoe, and Woody boasted about his dry, warm feet, a business opportunity emerged. The "New England Overshoe Company" (NEOS) was born.
Why are they so good?
NEOS is a market leader in overshoes and was one of the first brands to offer a lightweight solution for added protection, insulation, and traction. They are made from highly durable nylon, specially treated inside and out to provide 100% waterproof protection. A unique design that makes them easy to put on and take off, fits over orthopedic and custom shoes, is easy to clean with some warm soapy water, and - although it may not look like it - keeps you wonderfully warm.
